Our newest piece of construction equipment has arrived! A 2013 Bobcat T590 track loader.
This little powerhouse will allow us to do the bulk of our site work while doubling as a tractor for the farm. It has high flow hydraulics so we can get all the same attachments available for a tractor. They make everything from brush hogs to snow blowers for them. For now we just have the forks and bucket. We had some trouble getting financing for it (they usually only finance to businesses not "regular" people) but it all worked out in the end. We just have to carry insurance on it as if it were a new car. Some people have cool cars....we have construction equipment. Unlike our excavator, this is a modern machine with low hours so we hope we won't need to repair it during the build.
Mr. Dometastic has put it straight to work spreading deliveries of base gravel that replace all that top soil we removed. HERE is a link to the Dometastic facebook page to see a video clip of him taking it for a spin.

It is starting to look like a working driveway instead of a muddy driveway sized trench.
One requirement to build the dome is water and power on site. This is the reasoning behind building the barn first. It gives us a place to run electric and water prior to the house construction. We will still need to rent a mini excavator for a day to dig the utility trench and barn foundation as soon as we can coordinate with our electrician. I tried to get a hold of our utility company (Eversource) to give them our site plan and ask that they start the process on their end to plan for hook up. We know that the road needs to be cut and the utility company most likely needs to send one of their engineers out to look at it. Yeah..... that failed. Apparently they won't talk to me about it. I am a lowly property owner who can't possibly understand enough to warrant talking to me. They want to talk directly to our electrician. Maybe their experience with the general public is a bit like a cartoon? I wonder how bad it is that they needed to make a rule to not talk to anyone but the electrician?
So here comes the middle man. We are now paying the electrician to send them the site plan (that I sent to him) and spend time on the phone requesting a plan (that I already called about).
