Ring Beam Complete

Things are moving right along on the build now that it has been taken over by an experienced crew. It is both exciting and super awkward to have other people working on our house. I am not saying we miss the digging and the sweating (we still get to do that) but it is weird to no longer be in control. We feel like we should be helping with everything instead of just watching!  This is a super necessary step in our eyes. There are a lot of things we are willing to try to do ourselves but the concrete shell is not one of them. I have no doubt we could do it but we could never hope for it to come out smooth and even. To even consider attempting it we would need to enroll in the dome building class in Texas. Even if we did take the class, we are not confident that it would come out ok. We built our own foundation but it didn't have to look nice. Same goes for utility trenches and the septic. Every project we have taken on that was out of our realm of knowledge didn't require a spec

Septic, Propane and Utility Trench Complete

This past month has been a whirl wind of projects and now that the builders are here we get a tiny breather until they get to the point where they are doing the shell rebar. Then we have to go along behind them and set all the conduit and electrical boxes for every outlet, switch and light in the shell. For the next few weeks we will concentrate on a few other building related projects while the pro's take over. I am sure we will be busy trying to keep up with them once we get to that point.  First up on our list of projects to wrap up was the rough plumbing. It was sweaty work digging it all up but we got it done and filled in again. We did another pressure test and rough plumbing inspection. We passed and all is good! If you missed the post about the rough plumbing you can go back HERE and read it. Second up was the 2 inch electrical conduit.  More hard sweaty work with the pick axe and shovel. This time we dug long 12 inch deep trenches all across the dome to feed power or prop

BUILDERS ARRIVE!

Since there is so much to share I have had trouble with where to start my updates. Because there is so much, I am breaking it up into two updates. First and foremost THE BUILDERS ARRIVED YESTERDAY!!!!  This was a sudden decision on their part. Ever since they told us they would try to come at the end of the summer, we have been giving them little COVID in CT updates. As the numbers here continued to get better and the rest of the country worsened, we urged them to consider getting our build in now while the going is good. Well.... they listened! We got a call last Thursday night that said they plan to be in CT in a week. They drove 40 hours across the US with all their equipment in tow and ... We just completed a bunch of big projects that we were still trying to wrap up from our week long vacation of digging. I hope to write that post later today or tomorrow. The news of their imminent arrival sent us into a frenzy of trying to wrap things up. Yesterday morning the first sign of our o
