Winter break comes to a close and we gain back one hour of daylight. We are starting to get things ready and check things off our homework list. The first nice weekend day we finished grading the interior of the foundation. This was something we tried to finish last fall but didn't quite finish. It is now all set for the builders. We have a little more dirt moving to do on the exterior but it should be done soon.
It's cool but a bit confusing to look at because it is drawn as if transparent.
The first supplies to arrive are the things we have to supply that are not included in our contract but will be installed by the builders.
The first to arrive were the optional safety anchors for the top of each dome. They look like they belong bolted to a dock with large commercial fishing boats. They were much larger than I expected!
Since we plan to do a lot of this build ourselves we thought installing safety posts at the top of each curved roof was a good idea. These allow you to attach yourself, via a harness, to the house anytime you need to go up on top. Monolithic sells these online through their marketplace.
The second to arrive were our glass blocks.
Seves Clarity Energy Saving 1.1 blocks
These are super cool energy efficient glass blocks that we had to special order. These will be placed directly in the shell in close proximity to each other but not touching. They are a compromise between Mr. Dometastic and I. I want skylights and he wants to live in a dark defensible hole. Just kidding....sort of.
I wrote a few posts about this back when we were having our "discussions" about it during our planning stage. You can read about it here. And then the continuation of it HERE. The below example shows how we plan to have them installed.
This will let in light like a skylight/window BUT they can't be used by those pesky hoards of attacking neighbors I talked about in the old posts.
In my opinion this is the more plausible situation we need to defend against...
